WHERE IS
THE CONSONANT SOUND?

The #1 reason for failure in beginning readers is a child's inability to memorize all consonant and vowel sounds along with the inability of knowing how to blend these sounds when reading.  Consonant sounds need to be memorized first and memorization of any information requires repetition.  This is where our "WHERE IS" worksheets come into play.  Intelligently designed to incorporate repetition while also remaining challenging.   Both phonics and phonemic awareness are taught thoroughly through these 21 worksheet activities.  Each worksheet shows 7 pictures which contain the consonant sound, however, the child must choose whether the sound is heard at the beginning or end of the picture word.  As you can see, this unique strategy not only gives the repetition to enable memorization of the sound, but also keeps the activity challenging by having the child choose where the sound is heard in the word - thereby qualifying as a phonemic awareness activity.  Click the link at top to see our many free materials for letters B through M.
WHAT SOUNDS
DO YOU HEAR IN THESE WORDS?

Another set of uniquely designed worksheets which do an excellent job in speeding memorization of phonics and phonemic awareness skills. These worksheets teach important consonant sounds - vowel sounds - reading rules - CVC short vowels - blends - final "e" rule - digraphs (ai - ee - ie - oa) - r controlled vowels (ar-er-ir-ur-or) and the diphthong - oi.  The LESSON Worksheets parallel the same words used in the Phonics LeapDesk Tool by Leapfrog. Also includes ideas on how to effectively use these worksheets in a reading program.
These two links open up to pages that use the latest internet audio technologies to teach teachers and adults (wishing to learn to read) the important sounds of the English language.  While the Vowel Sound Teacher teaches the vowel sounds - the Adult Phonics Teacher literally begins from teaching the names of the alphabet letters and progresses through consonant sounds - blends - r-controlled vowels -  digraphs - diphthongs - and other important reading rules and strategies.

Also excellent for previous "Whole Language" teachers who may need to "brush-up" on a few unfamiliar sounds.
