| WHERE IS THE CONSONANT SOUND? The #1 reason for failure in beginning readers is a child's inability to memorize all consonant and vowel sounds along with the inability of knowing how to blend these sounds when reading. Consonant sounds need to be memorized first and memorization of any information requires repetition. This is where our "WHERE IS" worksheets come into play. Intelligently designed to incorporate repetition while also remaining challenging. Both phonics and phonemic awareness are taught thoroughly through these 21 worksheet activities. Each worksheet shows 7 pictures which contain the consonant sound, however, the child must choose whether the sound is heard at the beginning or end of the picture word. As you can see, this unique strategy not only gives the repetition to enable memorization of the sound, but also keeps the activity challenging by having the child choose where the sound is heard in the word - thereby qualifying as a phonemic awareness activity.
